Street Photography

Sudden realisation that I only have a couple weeks left of summer and as I'm completely booked up for the next couple weeks due to America, Reading Festival and my Central Saint Martins Fashion course, I need to get started with my summer assignments for my new school now!!!!

As I don't have a book to yet start my photography assignment (which is what I am working on first... next comes film, then english lit and history) I am just planning what I am going to do in each page- much like I used to do in Art.
Planning my portfolio, editing photos and putting everything together in my head has suddenly made me a bit more open to street photography. It's become a very interesting way of taking photos for me now with a lot of research I've been doing all day.

I'm now determined to get some shots I am happy with and will be able to be pleased about when showing my new teacher my work. I've also had the idea of comparing the similarities and differences of the street photography in America/Cali and London. I thought this would be a more interesting approach to my assignment and as I took Art GCSE, I'm very used to a lot of comparing, analysing and being a little creative.

''The urge to take a photo of something solid, something real. It's the happening shot of an image capturing the moment around you. A decisive quick movement. It's alive. The deep charisma of the inner world, a less obvious image. Street Photography is, life at a still.''

I've gotten some people to write their own definition of 'Street Photography' which I am going to begin with in my assignment.

''Capturing the personality of the not-so-exposed areas around you''

''Urban photography on the street, like gritty matter''
''Pictures of specific things that you think look good or weird around you''

''Managing to notice the small eccentricities that one might ignore in the mundane repetitive routine but that are still prevalent nonetheless''

I've also been doing a lot of research on the street photographer Eric Kim who I appreciate very much! I love is black and white film camera work. Like some of my quotes, Eric Kim's photography really identifies what these people mean by the ''gritty matter''. I am so completely in love with his work that I am now trying to invest in a film camera although with so little money I will probably have to wait till Christmas!

Even more so, Eric Kim is based in Los Angeles which is where I am now so looking at his photos has inspired me to go out in particular places and to not be afraid of taking pictures of people because they always end up looking incredible. ((Obviously I am not as good as him so my photos wont actually turn out nearly as good))

Please check out my FLICKR
I just made it and would be appreciated if you could just look at the few photos I have on it.

Grand Canyon and others

From a hotel with a pool , gym and spa to a little cabin in the woods with no signal or internet…….. you can only imagine the slight shock I was put through. Although I feel like I'm in some movie going to a holiday cabin like in Sex and the City, I really love it here even though its remote, its just what I need after Vegas.

This film is just nature which was actually fun filming and editing though it did take agessss to find a song to fit. I even went on a little walk alone in the woods for some filming and a cheeky cigarette.

So here's the second film of the holiday..

Touch down Las Vegas

We decided that if we wanted to really get the full crazy experience of Las Vegas then of course we've got to stay in the famous 5* hotel, Trump. Arriving into the hotel was just the start of the short but enough three day trip we were about to adventure.
Las Vegas was pretty intense. From the casinos, to the people, the buildings and the many 'fake' cities within the city. I managed to visit Rome, Paris, China town, Little Venice and New York from the distant. Even typing this just makes me sound completely mad but that's what you get in Vegas. Three days was just enough time as me and even my family were starting to get a little freaked about by the culture but loved it all the same.

This is my first proper holiday I've been able to take pictures on my new ((beautiful)) camera. I then realised where the film setting was and started to take a few shots. As I got into the filming I thought about all the films I used to make/edit, even though those films were just for family and friends it made me want to start again and with the incredible surroundings I was able to take many shots of things that really caught my eye.
So after three days of filming and editing in between I came up with my first short film that I've done in months. I am quite pleased with it but I'm just starting up again meaning they are not going to be as good as I would like but whatever because the more practice, the better I will get (( HOPEFULLY ))

Enjoy and don't judge the cool effects of reverse I've done xxxx

GRANADA

Soooo me and nine other friends went to Granada in Spain last week for 6/7 days on our own. We stayed in such a nice apartment which was right about a restaurant where we spent the majority of our time ordering drinks and getting tapas.

We didn't go out much in the day but the night was always pretty mad as the alcohol was extremely cheap and the clubs would only start getting good at around 2am or later. Night life was so odd there but way more fun than London where NO clubs are open for my age and alcohol is way harder to buy. ((I probably shouldn't be writing about the illegal things we may have done that holiday should I??))

Granada is pretty beautiful, especially the Alhambra lit up at night and the view point where you get to see everything. This holiday was also very special for me as it was the first time I was able to use my new 550D camera which is so beautiful and recommend everyone to try it out!!!!!

These photos pretty much sum up the crazy time I had in Spain and although I miss it so much, I had one day to pack and see people before I flew off to CALIFORNIA!!!
As well as it being an amazing holiday, it also taught me and the others a lot about being independent. Having to cook for ourselves every day, clean, find the way to places without adults and making sure we have enough money for each day (which I was very bad).

I've been sooo busy recently since I'm trying to make the most of my summer. I've got so much to update and I promise I'll be getting to it asap!!

I'll go from quite a few weeks ago where I did some work experience with my two friends at one of the friends parents work. We were helping set out a press show for Mother Care which was actually rather exciting even if I'm not very interested in baby clothes and toys. We had to wrap and put together goody bags and then sort out prices for clothes and other little jobs like that. I liked the atmosphere and the feeling of working again, although it's not something I'd do it was interesting to be in that environment

This is rather a dull post which I deeply give my apologies but I thought it was something that needed to be shared on my blog

Sky Ferreira

My friend and I bought tickets for £3.50 each to go see Sky Ferreira at h&m nme showcase on the 25th of June. We both have a secret love for Sky, hence one of my posts about her. It was very small and not many people comparing to festivals and concerts I've been to but it was cute and just right for all Sky fans. I must say I thought it would be better and I ended leaving a little early, mostly because we had been waiting for ages for Sky to come on stage which was very annoying.

The fun part of the night was that Tallulah and I were called over and interviewed by NME. They asked us questions like how we found out about the event, what do we like about Sky's music, what song we were most looking forward to etc.. We both talked about Sky's fashion as the main part of why we loved her (we both have bleach blonde hair like hers)

I'll leave you with some pictures as I NME seem to not have posted the video yet and my writing is getting a little boring

Beginning of Summer

So now GCSE's are officially over (and have been since the 17th of June) I can properly start regularly posting on here which is what I've been wanting to do for so long!!

I've done surprisingly a lot over the past few weeks I've been on holiday, including shopping, prom, my new school induction day, parties, birthday and so much more!

I also went to the private viewing of the Central Saint Martins End of Year Show which was so amazing to be able to see all the work the students have done. I was obviously mostly interested in the fashion part of the work. I found all the clothes that had been designed and made by the students incredibly inspiring however I sadly wasn't allowed to take any photos. I enjoyed the womans wear more as I thought it was much more creative and out there although the mens was amazing too. This was the first time I've been to CSM and obviously I fell in love with it. I talked to a few people who said that if I were interested in studying fashion for uni then I should do a foundation out of London for a year and come back to CSM and study something else. I'd never considered that option before and now I am even more excited for the future.

Although I didn't get to go to the actual fashion show I still looked at many pictures of designs people came up with and found them all so original. The collection had so much creativity and so many different textures, colours and fabrics.
